TMJ Treatment with Neuromuscular Dentistry
Thanks to the comprehensive training in neuromuscular dentistry that Dr. Morgan has received from LVI, Towne Lake Family Dentistry & The Art of Cosmetic Dentistry is able to provide advanced TMJ treatment at our Atlanta and Marietta-area practice. The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) that allow us to eat and speak consist of a complex series of muscles, bones, and joints that, when functioning improperly, can cause a variety of symptoms, including jaw pain, clicking or popping in the jaw, headaches, neck and shoulder pain, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), numbness or tingling sensations in the fingers or arms, and depression. Unfortunately, because TMJ problems are frequently misdiagnosed, TMJ disorder sufferers often go for years without seeking proper treatment for their conditions — or even knowing what they can do about their problems. Fortunately, at Towne Lake Family Dentistry & The Art of Cosmetic Dentistry we have outfitted our office with state-of-the-art neuromuscular dental equipment that allows us to properly diagnose TMJ disorders and provide treatment for patients from Atlanta, Marietta, and elsewhere. By evaluating the movement and closure of a patient's jaw, we can assess the optimal position for that patient's bite and determine a course of therapy that will allow the jaw to rest in that position comfortably and alleviate any TMJ symptoms. This therapy may involve the use of a custom-created orthotic splint or mouthguard, subtle reshaping of selected teeth, or the use of orthodontic braces.
