We will be celebrating National Children’s Dental Health month throughout February here at the Art of Cosmetic Dentistry Buckhead. When our patients become parents they often have questions for us regarding their infant’s developing teeth. You should clean an infant’s mouth everyday. At first you can wipe their mouth with a clean damp cloth and graduate up to an infant brush when baby teeth emerge. Do not “clean” a pacifier in your mouth as you can pass cavity causing bacteria to an infant. Place only water, milk, or formula in baby bottles and encourage drinking from a cup by their first birthday. Begin flossing as soon as they have any teeth that touch. Finally, according to the American Dental Association and the American Association of Pediatric Dentists a child should see a dentist for an exam six months after the eruption of their first tooth but no later than one year of age. They should come in for exams every six months, graduating to a dental cleaning when the dentist advises they are ready. Please call to schedule your infant’s examination.
