DR. RAY MORGAN: Periodontal disease or gum disease is one of those situations that I always tell people it's much like heart disease. It took you a long time to build the plaque up in your arteries and it takes you quite a while to build up, you know, problems under your gums, but once their rear their ugly head, then you've got some serious problems. I'm a big believer in education. I think our patients should understand what's going on in their mouth, and how they got there and what needs to be done, if anything, to restore their mouth to oral health.

So if we can encourage our patients to come in at least twice a year and have their teeth cleaned, we're going to do our part and inform you and let you know what's going on in your mouth and we're going to make sure that we clean them very well, but the education part is very important, because we're only seeing you twice a year. We want you doing the right thing the rest of the year.
